ABSTRACT
Article treats about elderly care in Sweden in the refference to the socjal-democratic regime of welfare state. The purpose of it was to examine whether — and to what extend — the key characteriscs of so called „swedish model” are reflected in organisation, financing and provision of elderly care there. In first part I briefly describe the features of Swedish model in general. Then, I present demographic as well as cultural preconditions of elderly care in Sweden. Later I move to the financial and legal framework of it. Consequently, I tackle the problem of axcess and aligibility of elderly care in the context of the „social citizenship” concept. I also present the recent tendencies such as refamilization and promotion of home and comunnity care as the alternative to the stacionary one. Finally, I summarize the former considerations that lead to conclusion that elderly care in Sweden appears to reflect the most distinctive aspects of Swedish model such as big commitment of the state, wide range of publice services funded from taxes and comprehensive access to the public support, based on needs not means-test.
