Differentiation of poverty in Poland: qualitative research studies perspective

ABSTRACT
The article presents differentiation of poverty in Poland in micro-perspective of family and
household. In this approach the role of gender and age as differentiating factors is clearly visible.
Poverty of women means in the context of family and household more obligations and responsibilities and less time. Poverty of men expresses itself in active strategies, such as looking for a job,
working hard etc. on one side and in the passivity, resignation and alcohol abuse, on the other.
Poverty of children and young people consists of different forms of deprivation and the danger of
inheritance of the low level of the satisfaction of needs. Poverty of old people translates very often
into helping the younger generations. Qualitative research studies concentrated on family and
household uncover unknown dimensions of poverty in Poland.
